Great Harbour, Jost Van Dyke in the BVI
In recent years, Great Harbour has been growing in leaps and bounds. However, some things never change and Jost Van Dyke is still a world apart from all the other British Virgin Islands.
Aside from all the bars and restaurants here ... there are also, a couple of grocery stores, a bakery, an ice house, a few gift shops a beach volleyball court and of course
Foxy's.
As you enter the harbour, note the government dock on the port (west) side of the bay. This is where the
New Horizon Ferry to Soper's Hole,
Tortola docks.
Centrally located on the beach is the government dock as well as the local police station and Customs & Immigration, seen in the background of the photo below. If clearing in or out of BVI waters, this is where you should do it if you want to avoid any crowds or line ups in Soper's Hole.
Tucked in behind the main strip, Bun Road is to the right and beside Customs & Immigration. This little road will take visiting sailors directly to Nature's Basket Grocery Store and Christine's Bakery.

At Christine's, you'll enjoy lovely fresh baked breads and sticky buns! If you find you are getting low on ice, the Ice House is just across the road from Christine's Bakery.

As we tour the main drag, (which is a sand road) we'll start at
Rudy's Mariner Inn at the far southern side of the beach. Rudy's is a mainstay in this popular anchorage, with lodging and a wonderful new
grocery store.
Just to the right of Rudy's stands the charming JVD Methodist Church bearing a sign announcing, "All are Welcome to Attend".

Jost Van Dyke Scuba
Along the way, you'll come upon
Jost Van Dyke Scuba (photo above), owned and operated by Colin & Andrea Aldridge. They offer guided snorkeling and scuba trips, equipment rentals, dive lessons and air tank refills. You may also rent paddleboards, fishing gear, a RIB dinghy or a Boston Whaler. They're closed on Saturdays ... which is almost always the day I visit Jost Van Dyke.
If you're feeling energetic, you can always get your crew together for a game of beach volleyball ... but I have no idea where you'd get the ball, so best to bring one with you.

JVD Grocery Store and Ice Cream Shop
The JVD Grocery Store (photo above) is a small shop with most of the basics and great ice cream! To finish things up, Chinnery's Unique Designs offers nice little gift items to take home.
There are plenty of
beach bars and restaurants in Great Harbour too ... so keep reading!
