Prickly Pear Island: British Virgin Islands

This lovely island situated in the North Sound, east of Virgin Gorda became a BVI National Park in 1988 ... meaning no further development of the island will take place. Prickly Pear lays claim to several of the territory's most wonderful beaches including the ever popular Vixen Point! Swimming, snorkeling, hiking and limin' at the Sand Box Restaurant and Beach Bar are the four main things to do here.

Sailors love Prickly Pear Island as it not only offers spectacular beaches and a great Bar & Restaurant, but there is also a very nice anchorage just off Vixen Point.

Prickly Pear Island National Park

The owner of the Sand Box Bar and Restaurant, (Lucille Malone) is a native British Virgin Islander. Lucille is thrilled to welcome sailors from all over the world to the Sand Box!

If you'd like to stretch your legs, there's a great hiking trail leading from Vixen Point at the Sand Box, around the salt ponds and over to the north shore where you will find two more spectacular (and less populated) beaches!

Vixen Point is a stunning beach and home to the Sand Box Grille & Bar!

The restaurant (which seats up to 70 people) was built in 1996 and is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner. Lucille specializes in fresh lobster and other seafood dishes grilled to perfection! Try her yummy conch fritters and if you want to see Lucille blush, just ask for "Lucy's Luscious Lobster Salad" which is one of their house specialties. They make wonderful, home made burgers as well!

There's a volleyball pit for visitors to Prickly Pear and the restaurant facilities are available for private parties and weddings too. I can't think of a more beautiful location for a beach wedding in the islands! Lucy has introduced live entertainment on Sunday afternoon's!
