Palm's Delight Restaurant - Carrot Bay

Visitors are often surprised and delighted when they first discover this little gem located in Carrot Bay, on the north shore of Tortola.

This humble establishment includes a cement floor, rusted chairs, well worn tables and very little else ... other than great food and the sound of the sea while you dine right at the water's edge.

Do not be in a rush for your food or drinks, as service can be slower than some would like when the restaurant is busy. If you know the menu, placing your orders prior to arrival is sometimes a good idea. If you don't know the menu, drive by, take a look at the menu, write down what you want and give your order to Sonny (your waiter) or Iona (the owner and chef). I have done this in the past and it worked out well.

I like to go take a walk around the village, stop and chat with some of the locals I know, drop in for a drink at Clem's or go for a tour of the North Shore Shell Museum. I just plan to never be in a rush.

Your server Sonny Blyden, and restaurant owner Iona Dawson are truly lovely people who aim to please. Sonny is a veritable fount of knowledge about the island and is happy to answer any questions you may have.

Palm's Delight Restaurant, Tortola

If looking for ambience and aesthetics, look elsewhere ... but if looking for excellent West Indian food, this is the place! Their conch fritters are excellent and the chicken breast with ginger wine sauce is legendary. I like their roti too and regardless of which roti you choose, they are all very good.

Iona claims their sautéed shrimp are very popular, though I have never tried them myself. When there is a choice between Iona's roti and her ginger wine chicken, I just can't seem to make the leap to anything else! I suppose if she ever runs out of the ginger wine chicken breast and all the shrimp, seafood, chicken and vegetable rotis ... I'll give the sautéed shrimp a try. Oh ... I forgot, the honey stung chicken is also pretty good.

Sonny says that the "Palm's Delight" is probably their most popular mixed drink. It is made with rum, lime juice, Triple Sec and pineapple juice.

If you are a fan of key lime pie, theirs is marvelous!
