This odd little treasure is one of the BVI's best kept secrets and is also one of my favourite places on Tortola. It's off the beaten path ... in the small neighbourhood of Long Look and is only open one evening per week - Tuesdays. Dove Love is owned by Lash and Lynne Thomas. Lynne is a transplanted Canadian (from Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario) who has lived in the BVI for more than 20 years. Her adorable and always smiling husband Lash, is a native Tortolian.
This lovely couple were married in 1997 and are two of the nicest folks you'd ever want to meet. They are both friendly, outgoing and go out of their way to please restaurant guests and make sure everyone is well taken care of.
On Tuesday nights, you'll find Lynne cooking up a storm, offering home made international cuisine such as lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs, some Chinese food, a little of this and a little of that. The menu changes weekly and dining at Dove Love is not unlike going to a friends home for dinner.
To get to the restaurant, go up the stairs. At the top, you'll see the sign stating, "We are currently and most likely forever ... UNDER CONSTRUCTION". This is an indicator that the place is very laid back and casual, just like the proprietors!
While Lynne is busy in the kitchen, Lash is usually busy with one project or another ... in their ongoing quest to maintain the building. He also helps out on the floor when things get hopping.
They are also open on various holidays such as Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter. Lynn puts on a fabulous buffet with all the traditional "fixin's" we north Americans expect and a few we don't. My friends and I usually go for Thanksgiving dinner and more often than not, roll out of there unable to eat another bight. If you want to join in the merriment over any of the holidays, be sure to call for reservations. Space is limited so call in your reservation in early to avoid disappointment.
The food is always delicious and very reasonably priced ... as are the drinks.
Though reservations are not required on Tuesday nights, if you have a large group, it would be greatly appreciated if you would call ahead.
Bring cash. They don't take credit cards and don't own a cash register!
