British Virgin Islands
B through C

Beef Island | Bellamy Cay | Betty Brown Rock | Broken Jerusalem
Buck Island | Carrot Rock | Carval Rock | Cockroach | Cooper Island

There are over 60 islands, cays and rocks in the BVI, 23 are inhabited or are privately owned. Several of the private islands are resorts or offer high end villa rentals. Many others are quite small and uninhabited. We have listed each of the British Virgin Islands alphabetically and provided detailed information including location, coordinates and any noteworthy features for those beginning with B through C.

British Virgin Islands Facts and Information:

Note: Where no map is indicated, please refer to the BVI map for its location. Coordinates provided are strictly for your information and are not intended for navigation.

Beef Island spacer Pictures & Information | Map

Location:

Joined with Tortola by bridge at East End.
Coordinates:   Soon Come!
Description:   One of the larger (small) islands in the BVI and home to the main Airport. Trellis Bay is a popular anchorage with a few, small shops and boutiques while the beach at Long Bay offers wonderful swimming and sunbathing! In late 2005, the government of the British Virgin Islands approved plans for the development of a Jack Nicklaus designed golf course and country club to be built on the south west side of the island. (See below)

Notable Beaches:

Long Bay Beach and Trellis Bay.
Anchorages:   Overnight: Trellis Bay. Moorings are provided but you can safely anchor here as well.
Special Events:   Full moon party on the beach at Trellis Bay every full moon.

Additional Information: Beef Island Golf and Country Club coming soon!

Bellamy Cay spacer Picture & Information | Map

Location:

Trellis Bay off Beef Island, BVI.
Coordinates:   Soon Come!
Description:   Very small islet named for the British born "Prince of Pirates", Black Sam Bellamy, who once used Trellis Bay to careen his stolen fleet of ships. Bellamy Cay is home to the ever popular, Last Resort Restaurant and Cabaret.

Betty Brown Rock spacer Map

Location:

North eastern entrance to Great Harbour, Jost Van Dyke.
Coordinates:   Soon Come!
Description:   Rock which is accompanied by many other underwater rocks in the same area. Sailors won't want to meet Betty Brown in person!

Broken Jerusalem spacer

Location:

Between Fallen Jerusalem and Round Rock (south west of Virgin Gorda).
Coordinates:   Soon Come!
Description:   Three clusters of uninhabited above water rocks which pose a hazard to navigation but make a lovely home for nesting sea birds.

Buck Island spacer Map

Location:

Off the south eastern shore of Tortola.
Coordinates:   Soon Come!
Description:   Small uninhabited (private) island which was once the site of the first landing strip in the BVI. You'll find good snorkeling (for those who like an adventure) along the north coast. Friends of mine and I swam out from Tortola a few times and were thrilled to see a couple of large spotted eagle rays on each occasion. We also found two small reef fish species there which we have never been able to identify!

Carrot Rock spacer Map

Location:

Off the southernmost tip of Peter Island.
Coordinates:   Soon Come!
Description:   Small above water rock which is home to the Carrot Rock Skink, (Mabuya macleani) found only on this one rock anywhere in the world. There is also excellent scuba diving at nearby Carrot Shoal. (See below)

Additional Information: BVI Diving

Carval Rock spacer

Location:

Between Ginger and Cooper Islands.
Coordinates:   Soon Come!
Description:   Small above water rock with good (advanced) scuba diving in the immediate area.

Cockroach spacer

Location:

Off the north west coast of Virgin Gorda (Mountain Point) and due east of Great Camanoe near the Dog Islands.
Coordinates:   Soon Come!
Description:

Uninhabited with very rugged terrain. The Visibles, an excellent dive site, are located just south and west of Cockroach.

Cooper Island spacer Map

Location:

Between Ginger and Salt Island and south of Tortola.
Coordinates:   Soon Come!
Description:   The Cooper Island Beach Club is an informal resort catering to scuba divers and visiting yachtsmen with a gift shop, restaurant and dive shop. There's an excellent place to snorkel just off Cistern Point at the western tip of Manchioneel Bay.

Anchorage:

Overnight: Manchioneel Bay, Carvel Bay and Haulover Bay.

Note: Moorings are provided at Manchioneel Bay. It is not recommended that you attempt to anchor here as holding is very poor. Lots of sea grass! Where there is sea grass, there are sea turtles, so strap on your mask and have a look!

Additional Information: Cooper Island Beach Club and Sail Caribbean Divers.
