Though the Lagoon 450 retains many of her predecessor's popular features, this is clearly a brand new yacht. She's 14" longer, 6" wider, and the salon, cockpit and helm layouts have all been noticeably redesigned. In my opinion, most of the changes were well considered and worth the effort.
Immense sugar scoops provide easy access to both your dinghy and the water, even for little ones or those who may not be as nimble as they once were. The dedicated dinghy winch makes hauling your dinghy, very simple and stress free.
The expanded cockpit includes a large dinette comfortably seating 6 on the port side, with a large day lounge to starboard. I like the new cockpit layout very much. It's much more open and far more utilitarian! Between the dinette and galley you'll find a built in, self draining cooler as well as a garbage bin. A huge opening hatch has been added directly above the dinette to provide additional light and ventilation whenever desired.
Access to the flybridge is great from both sides of the yacht and on the starboard side, you have a stairway leading directly to the helm. The (not quite) center line helm offers fabulous visibility, even for height challenged captains!
The iconic flybridge that made the 440 such a huge success has become an even more sociable area than on the previous model. The bench seat has been extended and reaches from one side of the bridge to the other.
Her side decks are very wide and and easy to navigate. All deck hatches are recessed and handrails are provided on the coach roof in all the right places. Non skid surfaces on the decks, coach roof and even on the cockpit roof make doing whatever needs to be done much safer in rough weather.
Of course another of her stand out features remains the forward seating area, allowing sailors of all ages to enjoy a comfortable ride in the safety of the forward cockpit.
All in all, I would label the redesign a resounding success. They have indeed made the Lagoon 450 even better than her predecessor. It was a tall order and they filled it nicely!
Note: Sailing lessons (level 114) are available aboard this yacht. Candidates must already possess ASA level 104 bareboat certification.
