Lagoon 39 | Catamaran - 2016
Name: Sophisticat | Air Conditioned
The new generation of cruising catamarans, designed by Marc Van Peteghem and Vincent Lauriot-Prévost are truly impressive. Without compromising Lagoon's long standing legacy of sensible and comfortable living arrangements, VPLP have come up with a brand new hull and rig to provide a more efficient sailing experience.
The mast has been moved well aft, allowing for a smaller, more easily controlled main and a larger, self tacking headsail. This has allowed better balance at the center of effort and much easier handling under sail. You can see the mast position on the yacht layout, just port of the entry into the main salon, abutting the galley.
I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if this design change will dictate the future of several other cruisers within the next ten years. It's simply a more desirable concept for too many reasons to list here.
The raised helm with canvas bimini seats two and provides excellent forward visibility. All lines are within easy reach, making single handing a simple process. The helm is accessible from either the cockpit or the starboard side deck.
You'll find the main salon is pretty spacious for a cat under 40' and offers a comfortable dinette and nice sized navigation station that faces port with good forward visibility. Her small but sufficient, L-shaped galley faces aft and includes a double sink, 3 burner stove, oven, fridge and a handy pass through window to the cockpit.
The aft cabins offer up very comfortable, oversized queen berths laid athwartship, while the forward cabins provide oversized double berths, tapered at the foot. All four cabins provide more than sufficient storage and hanging locker space, reading lights, good ventilation and loads of natural light.
Both heads are reasonably sized and centrally located between the fore and aft cabins. The shower space is comfortable and conveniently located away from the head and anything else you may want to keep dry.
The only drawback I could find on this very sensible little catamaran is that neither the salon or cockpit dinettes can seat 8. Five to six at each table is certainly doable. Considering her very reasonable price per week, I think I could manage!
