Lipari 41 Maestro | Catamaran - 2012
Name: Ole Ole
She's not just a pretty face! Though she does indeed cut a stunning figure on the water, this is a very sensibly designed catamaran with both a low profile and low center of gravity. She handles easily and sails well!
It's not surprising that this is Fontaine Pajot's best selling yacht. Try as I might, I was hard pressed to find things I didn't like, were badly designed or were missing altogether. Things I did find to moan about, are so minor, they are pretty much irrelevant.
Below decks, the owners suite occupies the entire starboard hull and is very nicely appointed. She boasts a lovely queen berth with 2 drawers below, individual reading lights, fans, a fixed portlight and two opening hatches that supply lots of natural light.
Further forward, you'll find a desk and library area that has an opening hatch above for both light and ventilation. Storage is certainly not a problem as there are large hanging lockers, and plenty of places to tuck away your personal items.
In keeping with all the newer Fontaine Pajot catamarans, the owner's head with separate shower is very spacious and quite comfortable. It has a small but nicely executed vanity with a modern (raised) bowl sink, manual head and a separate shower large enough that you won't hit your elbows on the sides. To ensure your privacy, there's a sliding wooden door to separate the suite from the main salon.
The port hull is occupied by two additional cabins, each boasting queen berths. These two cabins share a head with shower, located midships. Under each berth is a storage nook, ideal for storing duffle bags and back packs. On one side of the cabin, you'll find open shelving while the other offers up a hanging locker. Each has a fan, reading lights, a fixed portlight as well as two opening hatches for additional light and ventilation.
Her main salon is surprisingly large for a catamaran just over 39' in length. The dinette seats 6 if you use the cooler as an additional seat and 4 without. Your navigation station with free onboard Wi-Fi is integrated into the port side of the dinette.
Note to certain other production boat manufacturers: Please take note of the rounded corners on the table, and all counter tops! If these items had fiddles, the interior of this cat would be just about perfect! I would think that yacht manufacturers would be aware that square corners put certain body parts at risk in heavy seas!
Opposite the dinette is a lovely L-shaped galley. Though there isn't much in the way of counter space, it has all the necessary accoutrements. Besides, why take up valuable real estate with counter space when there are two, perfectly good tables in the main salon and cockpit?
She has a double stainless steel sink, three burner stove and a raised wall oven at just the right level so your chef can see what is going on in there. There is sufficient storage space as well as additional storage beneath the dinette seating. A piano hinged refrigerator is located just inside the cockpit door to starboard. OsoGato has a freezer as well.
The cockpit is nicely laid out with a dinette that seats 6, if using the cooler as an extra seat. The hard top is an extension of the coach roof and has a jaunty little upwards flair at the tail end, giving her a bit of a sassy look. I would have liked to see a manual dinghy winch on this boat, but you don't want to let a vacation stand in the way of staying fit!
The helm (with soft top) comfortably seats two and the seat is an integrated part of the hard top. All controls lead to the helm and the traveler is neatly mounted on the hard top, making her very easy to single or short hand. Forward and side visibility are great, but you'll need some assistance (eyes) if docking stern to.
All in all, I very much like the Lipari 41. It's good looking, handles easily, sails nicely in all weather conditions ... (even if it isn't likely to win any speed records) and the interior design is sensible, utilitarian and quite spacious. She's affordably priced too!
Note: Sailing lessons (level 114) are available aboard this yacht. Candidates must already possess ASA level 104 bareboat certification.
