Real Nauti
Helia 44 Maestro | Catamaran - 2018
Name: Real Nauti | Air Conditioned
The Fountaine Pajot design team in collaboration with naval architects, Berret Racoupeau, continue to up their game in the areas of performance, comfort and dynamic styling. The Helia 44 (which replaced the Orana 44) has proven to be one of the most popular mid-size catamaran models in the BVI bareboat charter industry ... ever!
From stem to stern you will discover innovative designed concepts to enhance life aboard as well as your sailing experience. The combination of the rigid bimini, sliding glass door and pass through window have transformed the aft cockpit into an extension of the interior space. This has expanded your entertainment area tremendously, while ensuring that all are part of the conversation ... including the cook.
The dining table has been relocated to the cockpit, to make better use of the indoor lounge area while allowing diners to enjoy the fabulous Caribbean views. I don't know what it is about dining al fresco, but it always seems to enhance the appetite. The smell of the sea breeze and sound of the waves lapping at the sides of the yacht, somehow engage our senses that in turn elevate even a lowly hot dog or tuna sandwich, to some kind of rare delicacy, oozing flavours you would swear you have never experienced before.
Large windows, opening hatches and fixed portlights fill the interior with a plethora of natural light and provide excellent flow through ventilation. To take advantage of the air conditioning, just slide the door, windows and hatches closed, flip on the generator and air, grab a book or a deck of cards ... and relax.
The u-shaped galley is beautifully designed, is equipped with all the standard amenities found in a modern home kitchen, has plenty of counter space, faces both fore and aft and features 2 lovely large refrigerator drawers as well as a front opening freezer.
The 3 cabin owner's layout (Maestro) boasts 2 guest cabins with walk around, queen berths and separate en-suite heads with showers. You'll find sufficient storage space as well as a hanging locker in each. The owner's cabin includes another walk around queen berth, a settee with reading lamp, a desk with storage, two large hanging lockers and a very spacious head with shower.
The raised helm is easily accessed from the wide side deck and offers terrific visibility. This is probably where most will congregate while underway. The three seater bench seat offers the captain lost of room for company and just a few feet away and up three steps, there's a second, L-shaped settee on the coach house roof. Forward of that, you'll find two large sun pads for lounging. Basically, your entire crew can be up there with the captain.
There are several reasons why the Helia 44 is in such high demand in Tortola ... and those reasons are comfort, excellent sailing performance (she's quick and handles easily), there's a wonderful social aspect to the layout, and she is as attractive as a catamaran can be. It all just works. Well most of it anyway.
If I have any complaints at all, it would be the curtains. I have to be honest, I really hate them. I wish Fountaine Pajot would come up with some kind of durable window treatment that is easily and quickly deployed and that doesn't look a mess after the first few months of use. What they have now, I would describe as shabby and rather poorly fitted. They never look tidy and they cheapen the overall appearance of the interior.
Aside from that one rather minor complaint, I think this is a very well put together catamaran. She is perfect for a family of 6 or three couples planning to sail the BVI in style!
