Ohana
Helia 44 Maestro | Catamaran - 2015
Name: Ohana | Air Conditioned
Naval architects Berret Racoupeau and the in-house design team at Fountaine Pajot have every reason to celebrate another success. This 44', 3 cabin owners version is a lovely catamaran and as the name, "Helia" suggests, she is a "ray of sunshine" and is certainly a welcome addition to the BVI yacht charter industry.
Obviously, the flybridge concept has been 'borrowed' from the competition, but I think most people realize a good idea will always spread rather quickly. There's no shame in recognizing a winning concept, reworking the idea to suit your customer's wishes and running with it. I like the helm area as the captain has all winches, controls and electronics right there in front of him or her.
She's a good looking yacht with almost plum bows, angular features, a low center of gravity and an aesthetically pleasing coach roof extending out over the cockpit.
One of the optional extras I particularly like aboard Ohana is the Textilene sun screens that wrap around the saloon windows. As you can see from the photos, you'll have total privacy during the day, without losing natural light and full visibility from the inside ... and ... these screens cut the UV rays by 80%, keeping the heat generated by the sun to the bare minimum. Of course they don't work for privacy at night, but most people sit outside in the cockpit or go ashore at night to experience a little BVI night life at any of the numerous beach bars and restaurants.
The Helia 44 has probably one of the nicest helm stations I've seen in recent years. It was obviously designed to encourage the social aspects of sailing. There's seating for three at the helm, an additional seat for two up three steps beside the helm on the roof and of course large twin sunpads are located forward and just aft of the mast. Your skipper will never be lonely up there!
She boasts a large dinette in the cockpit directly outside the galley with pass through window. Overhead hatches provide even more Light and ventilation for this area when needed and a sun screen is provided should the sun become too hot. You will also find a huge amount of storage space in each of the lazarettes, so feel free to bring along water toys and fishing gear if you wish!
The interior is gorgeous and very nicelyl laid out. Your inviting main saloon offers up a large L-shaped settee with coffee table and a well equipped navigation station. Opposite the nav station is your galley with all the comforts of home including a fridge and separate freezer. The galley faces both forward and aft and is designed to be the center of attention whether your guests are in the saloon, cockpit or both.
Below decks, this yacht really shines. The port side has two lovely queen cabins, each with their own en-suite head and shower, hanging closet and drawer space while the starboard side is a dedicated owners suite with queen walk around berth, an extra large hanging locker, desk, love seat, loads of storage space and private head with separate shower.
This catamaran is really popular and always busy. Be sure to book well in advance ... particularly during any holiday periods or over spring break.
Note: Sailing lessons (level 114) are available aboard this yacht. Candidates must already possess ASA level 104 bareboat certification.
