Helia 44 Maestro | Catamaran - 2015
Name: Little Bird | Air Conditioned
Fountaine Pajot has made quite a departure from their previous designs, and I must say, I'm very impressed. They have really stepped up their game in recent years!
I was pleased to find that all four cabins are quite spacious and clearly designed for cruising comfort. Each offers an en-suite head with separate shower and provides ample storage space and plenty of natural lighting.
The main salon with integral galley is bathed in loads of ambient light and excellent, flow through ventilation is provided by two forward opening hatches on either side of the mast enclosure. This, paired with the sliding glass door and adjacent sliding galley window make life aboard very comfortable.
A large, L-shaped settee in the main salon easily seats 6. The top opening coffee table offers storage space on one side and a wine/soda bottle holder on the other. She also has a well equipped navigation station, situated kitty corner on the forward port side of the salon settee, with excellent forward views.
The U-shaped galley faces both forward and aft. Equipment includes a double sink, 3 burner stove, oven, a large fridge with double drawers and a separate, front opening freezer. There's lots of counter space for meal prep too. Two people can comfortably work in the galley without tripping over one another. Another lovely feature of this spacious catamaran is the continuous floor plan. There are no steps or obstacles from the cockpit to salon. It's all one level ... turning the cockpit and salon into one large, indoor/outdoor space.
The cockpit delivers a large dining table, spacious seating, a small shaded lounge seat, propane BBQ and yet another front opening, stainless steel fridge, neatly tucked under the helm station. Nice!
In days past, Catamarans were notorious for poor visibility from the helm ... but the flybridge on this yacht makes that problem a thing of the past and sailing this 44 footer a real pleasure! The helm is accessed from either the cockpit or starboard side deck and provides excellent visibility as well as generous seating space for 3. All lines lead to the helm, making her pretty easy to single hand. A few more steps up a ladder from the helm to the coach roof, leads to another small seating area and two, full sized sun pads. Your captain will never feel cut off from your group while sailing. A canvas bimini mounted under the boom is provided to keep your skipper shaded while underway.
I am quite taken with this new breed of cat and believe the Helia 44 is a real gem! She boasts a well designed interior, provides excellent storage space, good headroom throughout and she's just plain comfortable! Come sailing in the BVI and enjoy all the amenities this lovely catamaran has to offer.
