Honeymoon Suite

Beneteau Oceanis 38 - 2015

Sailboat Name: Honeymoon Suite

Beneteau has produced a surprisingly spacious little yacht that's perfect for a young family or two couples wanting to experience a bareboat sailing vacation in the BVI. She has everything you need and the only thing missing is that claustrophobic feeling one sometimes gets on board some of the smaller yachts in the under 40' range.

She boasts dual helm stations, twin rudders, a large drop down transom/swim platform and a huge cockpit, free of the usual clutter of lines. The distinctive arch is used as the anchor point for your main sheet trim. A full bimini and dodger will ensure you are protected from the elements. Single handing is made easy with the jib winches located just forward of each helm.

When you go below decks, it becomes immediately evident that this sailboat has a tremendous beam to her. At 13'1" wide, she is beamier than most 41 footers ... and she carries it well.

Honeymoon Suite is awash with natural light and ventilation provided by several fixed portlights and opening hatches both along the hull and on the coach roof. The counters and table all have wonderful wooden fiddles and rounded corners, providing great handholds throughout.

At the base of the companionway to starboard, you'll find the head with electric toilet, and vanity. A completely separate shower compartment is located just aft of the head allowing one person to use the head while the other showers. I absolutely love this feature!

Just forward of the head is the in-line galley with plenty of space for two to work in tandem. This is a rather large galley for a yacht this size and it is very functional. Here you'll discover an under counter, front opening fridge/freezer, a single (deep) stainless steel sink with storage above and below. A two burner gimballed stove is beside the sink with pots and pans stored in an over-sized drawer below. Additional counter space with three drawers below are provided on the opposite side of the stove. All drawers are soft close.

Opposite the galley is the dinette with plenty of seating for 4 to 6. An integrated navigation station is located at the aft end of the dinette and the chart table features a soft close lid. The saloon table quickly transforms to a third double berth if needed.

A removable bulkhead between the forward v-berth and the main saloon allows you to configure this cabin to be open to the main saloon or closed for privacy. A single drawer is located below the berth. There's also storage under each of the seats at the base of the berth. Unless you have folding luggage capable of hanging ... be sure to pack lightly as there is no hanging locker space for this cabin, but there is a large hanging locker at the base of the companionway to port.

The humungous aft queen aft berth is a whopping 7' long and runs athwartships. The cabin offers stand up headroom, sit up headroom, a fixed portlight provides good natural light with opening hatches and a fan for ventilation.

The entire interior is finished with blond oak Alpi furniture, brown oak cabin sole and a light gray fabric on the walls. I really like this yacht and am particularly impressed with the interior volume. Honeymoon Suite is a lovely sailboat and as her name implies, she'd be ideal for a couple on their honeymoon or even for a family of 4 to 6 who'd like to sail the BVI in one of the biggest little boats I've ever seen.

Note: ASA Sailing lessons (levels 101, 103 and 104) are available aboard this yacht. Candidates must be at least 12 years of age or over to acquire bareboat certification.
