Transitions
Bavaria 40 Cruiser - 2013
Sailboat Name: Transitions
She's quick, nimble, light, airy and sensibly laid out. The cruiser 40' is a scaled down version of the 45, 3 cabin and offers most of the same features ... with the exception of the dual rudders. She also has in-mast furling and a fixed mechanical vang, making sail trim a very simple process.
The cockpit boasts a full bimini with dodger, a nice feature to help mitigate the 5 minute cloud bursts that are sometimes part and parcel of sailing the BVI. You'll enjoy the long teak bench seats that are angled nicely for comfort with backs high enough to offer comfort and support where needed. The cockpit sole is also teak, providing probably the best non-skid surface available.
She has dual helms with a compass mounted on each binnacle and Garmin electronics, including an 8" chartplotter and autopilot that are conveniently displayed on the drop leaf table and neatly fold away into the table when not in use.
The entire transom drops down between split backstays to provide a seamless boarding area and swim platform while at anchor. Her wide side decks and recessed hatches provide excellent access to the bow. All hardware is of high quality and well placed.
Below decks, you'll find a traditional 3 cabin layout. There are two spacious aft cabins and a forward v-berth, each offering standing head room, opening hatches with good ventilation and sun shades, fixed portlights, a small bench seat with storage below, hanging lockers, a deep drawer under the berth, fan and cabin lights. The aft cabins share a head with shower located to port of the companionway whilst the v-berth cabin has its own head with shower.
A proper navigation station with chart table is situated on the starboard side at the base of the companionway, and just ahead of the nav station is the main saloon with u-shaped settee and seating for 6 opposite the galley. The galley has all the standard equipment including a double stainless steel sink, gimaballed 2 burner stove, top loading fridge and a microwave for use when on shore power.
This is a roomy yacht with nice finishing touches. The blond alpi interior contrasts the mocha seat cushions and several fixed portlights lend additional natural lighting throughout while well placed opening ports and hatches provide excellent air flow. Though traditionally designed, she's not the typical, claustrophobia inducing sailboat of yesteryear. I like it.
Note: ASA Sailing lessons (levels 101, 103 and 104) are available aboard this yacht. Candidates must be at least 12 years of age or over to acquire bareboat certification.
