This little gem is located at Cistern Point,
Cooper Island at the far west end of the lovely Manchioneel Bay. When I first arrived in the BVI, this was the first place I went snorkeling. Although I have many years of diving experience, I truly appreciate a nice, easy snorkel. It's is a marvelous spot for beginners.
The waters surrounding Carvel Rock are alive with all sorts of sea life. Some time around 1996 or 1997, I took a friend's 5 year old son snorkeling here. The little guy swam like a little fish, so I gave him a pair of fins, a mask and snorkel and off we went.
After snorkeling for at least two hours, he decided then and there that he wanted to be a diver when he grew up. He certainly knew what he liked! He is now a SCUBA Instructor in Cay West and hopes to own his own SCUBA shop some day. My friend blames me. Sorry Lynn, I know you were hoping to have a doctor in the family! :)
