Eustatia Island in the British Virgin Islands
(privately owned)
This 30 acre playground for the rich and famous boasts three really lovely beaches and is located in Eustatia Sound, just south of Sir Richard Branson's exclusive Necker Island, north of
Virgin Gorda and slightly north east of the eastern tip of
Prickly Pear Island.
It is leased by Lucinda (Lucy) and Larry Page, co-founder and current CEO of Google. Some may recall, the couple were married on
Necker Island on December 8, 2007, just a stone's throw from Eustatia Island.
Everyone is entitled to their privacy and the waters surrounding Eustatia Island pretty much guarantee that for this rather high profile couple.
Unless you have local knowledge of the area, I recommend you stay well clear, as shallow reefs and coral heads abound.
Eustatia Reef and the whole of Eustatia Sound, (which can be seen in the photo below) offers some of the best snorkeling spots in the entire BVI. Definitely worth a visit. Dinghies only please ... and be sure to make your way slowly. It is very, very shallow throughout much of the area. Please check your charts to find the best route. This area is best explored on dead calm days with good visibility if you are unfamiliar with the area.

If you just HAVE to see this incredible reef, but aren't confident in your own abilities to navigate, give Allington Creque, a.k.a. "
Gumption" a call! He's a nice guy who owns a glass bottom boat and offers terrific tours of the area. You can see all you want from the boat, or hop in the water and go snorkeling.
