Spring Bay National Park - Virgin Gorda

There is no question that this island is truly blessed with striking good looks! The place is a sailors dream, boasting several of the most spectacularly dramatic and beautiful beaches in the world, let alone the British Virgin Islands!

As lovely and intriguing as The Baths and Devil's Bay are, in my opinion, it's pretty difficult to surpass the beauty of Spring Bay.

There are two very distinct parts to this remarkable beach. On the south side, there's the main bay and anchorage as shown in the photos above.

The beach wraps around the bay to the south and extends north around the point, (where the lady is sitting on the boulder in the photo below) leading to a completely different part of Spring Bay, also seen below.

It should be noted that if the anchorage is full, you can proceed to Spanish Town (aka The Valley) and pick up a mooring ball at St. Thomas Bay or dock at Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour. From there you can either rent a car or take a taxi to Spring Bay. Trust me, it's worth the effort!

There is a parking area and foot path to the beach just off the Tower Road. Currently, there is no entrance fee to Spring Bay National Park but there is for The Baths if entering from the road. Be sure to take your BVI National Parks permit from the boat if going to The Baths.

The second part of Spring Bay is the exquisite lagoon (or crawl) that lies at the base of the foot path from the main road. This path is a lot easier to navigate than the one to The Baths. It is noticeably shorter and it has a much more gradual descent. Those of us with bad knees can appreciate a nice, easy stroll.

The crawl is surrounded by massive boulders, protecting the area from the open sea and making this the ideal spot for families with young children and those who prefer minimal wave action.
