Nestled amongst the trees and hedges is this lovely little restaurant located opposite
Crafts Alive ... which are all the colourful shops right in the heart of
Road Town.
The staff are friendly and attentive and all the food I have had here has been very good. I particularly like their roti, which manager Jenny Gulland has verified is their most popular dish. That comes as no surprise to me.
I am a major roti fan ... and Bamboushay's is very good. It's made fresh daily and I would put it amongst the top 10 of the places I have tried in the British Virgin Islands ... which is probably 90% of them at this point! Their BBQ ribs are also excellent. I was lucky enough to be there once when they had mango jerk chicken on the specials board and it was excellent. Very tasty indeed.
I like their vegetables too because they seem to manage to find the freshest around and they are never overcooked. I hate mushy veggies but I particularly dislike overcooked rice! Rice is meant to be cooked to the same consistency as pasta (al dente) ... but I find that concept is lost in some restaurants throughout the BVI.
A note to all chefs and home cooks: Overcooking pasta or rice raises the glycemic index of the food which has a very negative impact on the human body. It can produce high blood sugar levels that can eventually lead to diabetes ... so knock it off!
If you don't have a clue how to cook rice properly, then come to Bamboushay and ask Chef Tricia Rossear how she does it!
Having gotten that off my chest, I have tried other yummy options on Bamboushay's menu which features some wonderful salads, pasta, sandwiches, fresh fish and they always have specials too. I have yet to be disappointed by any of their home made soups.
The dinner menu changes nightly as the chef shops for all the freshest ingredients available and only then decides upon her menu. So be prepared to be surprised! If lamb is on the menu, it's also one of the best sellers.
