A truly Italian Restaurant located in Soper's Hole on Frenchman's Cay. Owned and operated by Chef Chiara Valsecchi and bartender Roberto Selvi. Chiara is a graduate of the very prestigious Gambero Rosso Cooking School in Rome. Roberto is a professional mixologist since 1999. He is also a certified mixology teacher, who enjoys creating his own libations to tantalize the taste buds!
This lovely young couple came to the BVI in 2012 on a sailing vacation and immediately fell in love with the British Virgin Islands. Both wanted to leave Italy to establish their own restaurant. Their original intention was to set up shop in San Diego, but once they saw Soper's Hole, they knew they had found their new home! As luck would have it, they found an available building and set about building their dream in earnest.
The restaurant opened in March 2014 and I wish them all the luck in the world. They are real go getters with a great work ethic. They offer only high end food and drinks, which Chiara describes as "contemporary" Italian-Caribbean fusion. So don't come looking for your more mundane Italian dishes such as lasagna or spaghetti and meatballs!
Chiara is very keen on using locally available ingredients and letting her mind go wild while creating her very special Italian dishes. Her offerings are dictated by what ingredients are in season and whatever inspires her at the time.
In the upstairs dining room ... with its crystal chandeliers, no less, you will find a small and ever changing menu offering home made pastas, gnocchi, risotto, freshly baked breads, etc. In the downstairs bar, you'll enjoy a marvelous mix of finger foods, cold cuts, fresh fruit, bruschetta, meatballs with tomato sauce and the like.
All dishes, sauces and breads are made fresh daily, from scratch.
A mix of sweet and savoury offerings such as home made breakfast pastries, beef patties and fresh bread as well as some wonderful coffees brewed in a vintage Faema coffee machine begins at 6:00 a.m. to "about" 10:30 a.m. Lunch is offered from 11:30 a.m. until about 2:30 p.m. and dinner from about 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. From 5:00 to 7:30 p.m., Scaramouche offers some lovely Italian appetizers in the downstairs bar.
Someone will be at the restaurant all day, so if you are hungry outside of the advertised times ... no problem. In typical Italian style, they will be happy to serve you, whenever!
