Foxy's Taboo Restaurant - Jost Van Dyke

JVD_Foxys_Taboo_Restaurant_1 Foxy's Taboo Restaurant, Jost Van Dyke
Foxy's Taboo opened sometime around 2003 on this very remote part of Jost Van Dyke, with nary a soul in sight. I recall wondering what Foxy and Tessa were thinking? Had they completely lost it? Who on Earth would come here? Aside from a few stray bareboats occasionally anchored in Long Bay, the only heartbeats to be found in this place belonged to wild goats and the nesting birds on Diamond Cay!

OK, I admit it ... I can be very short sighted at times.

I had anchored here with friends a couple of times, gone mucking about in the salt pond at Cape Wright and had visited the Bubbly Pool once or twice myself. Back then, the Bubbly Pool was still a pretty well kept secret, almost exclusively enjoyed by locals and sailors in the know. It never occurred to me that it would someday become a major attraction!

Long Bay is a nice little anchorage and an ideal spot for sailors wanting to find a little peace and quiet when the weather cooperates.

Over the years, Foxy's Taboo (which is capably managed by Foxy and Tessa's daughter Justine) has become very popular indeed ... particularly with day trippers. In season, the dock is jammed full of small powerboats and dinghies loaded with folks making the pilgrimage to the always popular Bubbly Pool.

The food is very good and service is usually excellent ... but they sometimes get slammed at lunch time when hordes of day trippers descend on the place, so be prepared to wait for your food if the place is hopping.

For those who like lamb Kabob's, THIS is the place for you! Their pizza, burgers, ribs and chicken roti are pretty darned good too and the salads are excellent. I don't eat fish, but friends of mine say the fresh fish sandwich is awesome. I usually stop here for lunch on my way to or from the Bubbly Pool.

If you are particularly hungry, you may want to get here early and place your order to beat the crowds. They open around 11:00 a.m. By 4:00 pm, after the day trippers leave, you can expect much faster service from the friendly staff.

As you'll find at the original Foxy's in Great Harbour, there's a nice boutique here as well. Lovely summer clothing, beach wear, bathing suits, beach bags, t-shits, etc.

The approach to Foxy's Taboo is pretty easy. It's a straight run up the center of the channel between East End, Jost Van Dyke and Little Jost Van Dyke. Mind the shallows as you round the corner by Georgy Hole Bay and Sandy Ground. Be sure to give Diamond Cay wide Berth too.
