Yacht Provisioning for Bareboat Charters in Tortola, BVI
There are several, high quality grocery stores and yacht provisioners on Tortola. You may choose to do your own shopping in person or order groceries from any of the provisioning houses below. You'll find almost anything you'd like from gourmet foods to peanut butter and jelly. There's no need to lug groceries all the way to the British Virgin Islands. We eat too! :)
Although most bareboat charter companies have their own provisioning lists, it is often just as easy to order directly from the grocery stores. They have online order forms which are quite a bit more flexible than what the charter company meal plans. It's just a really big shopping list really. It's generally less expensive to order directly as well.
If hiring crew, please remember that you are responsible for supplying their provisions as well, so please consider them when planning your food & beverage budget.
Most hired crew are easy to please and will eat whatever you serve. If you want to go ashore for a few meals, it's very kind of you to take your crew along, but you are not obliged to so. Just make sure there is sufficient food aboard so they can makes themselves something, or give them $20.00 so they can go grab a burger ashore.
Some captains aren't much good at cooking so you need to give them options!
It is generally safe to order your provisioning about 2 weeks ahead of your arrival date for delivery to your yacht. Be sure you provide the name of the Charter Company (noted at the top of your contract), the name of the boat, the date and time you would like your provisions delivered.
Please do not have provisions delivered to the yacht until you or someone in your party is there to receive them. The charter companies do not have refrigeration facilities and groceries left out on the dock will spoil in no time at all!
